I am a Geology student at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. I have many hobbies including scuba diving, rock climbing, fossil hunting, and shooting.

I have been in construction most of my life and very much enjoy building. My specialty is trim and paint. I have had the itch to get into finer wood work for a while, but recently I have realized that I need specific pieces of furniture for utilitarian reasons. I have gone out and looked at buying what I need and realized that anything I can afford as a starving student will serve my purpose but looks horrible and has no craftsmanship to it whatsoever! I believe that I can build what I need for function but I can include some form into it as well.

I would much rather make something that can last me years rather than just long enough...

Welcome to Lumber Jocks! This has been a great place for me to learn about woodworking. People of all skill levels post their projects and get feedback about them and the forums have provided some good tips too. I have gotten a lot from the site. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

BTW: Good luck with your geology studies.

Welcome Don. You have found the right place for woodworking. A great group of people willing to help. Looking forward to see your projects and comments. Good luck with your drafting table. I was a draftsman for 38 years. I still have all of the drafting tools, but now I use ShetchUp. Work safe in the shop and don’t forget to use pushsticks.
