Thanks, for any help I have tried Sketchup but don't quite understand it as I've only tried it a few times and always give up on it. It's a simple project, three parts and I could probably pull it off from the notes but I like
to have a drawing to start with.

I hope you find this useful, I'm not an expert on sketchup either, but if I think I can help, I will be happy to do it.

You can see that the 1" hole on the hexagon is not all the way thru, I was trying different ways and sketchup keep telling me "cannot push/pull curved or smoothed surfaces" I know there's a way to do it, but I just don't know how yet.

I think I'll up size it slightly to 3.5" that way all the sides are 2" I ran a prototype today at 3" using a 2"1/4 hole and the side walls look a little thin about 3/8" (I had the 2 1/4" forstner bit so that is what I used) I'll post some photo's later.

My Drafting and image

Notes from this attempt, drill the small hole first to minimize tear out.
I split the bolt chucking it in a lathe, next time I'll glue a temporary block on the dowel end. I was just tapering the splitting end and rounding off the nob. I'll probably make the next one with a bolt head like the authors version.

2nd prototype in progress

with a few shots from the graph paper generator linked in the previous post. Print the image, a little 3M spray adhesive and the layout is done. The generator allows you to select various sizes, and to place a dot in the center. I used 2" for the large hex and .0875 for the smaller bolt head. It took me about 2 hours to almost finish the second one today, I used a router to round off the edges on the big nut. I purchased a 8/4 hunk of walnut for this project 18" will yield about 3 if it is at least 3" wide. My board was about 6.5 bf approx 5.5"wide X 7'
I tossed one out today because of checking in the grain near the end of the board. My mailman will get one with a bag of Walnuts for Christmas. I should be able to mass produce a few quicker now.

The first one I glued a larger piece on a dowel and turned it on a lathe.
The second one I cut the bolt head out on a band saw drilled a 1/2" deep 3/4"
hole in it to glue the dowel to. that was much faster. I still need to taper the end
of the bolt that will contact the nut but I may do that on a sander like the original
author of the plan.If I were to do it in a lathe again I'd use CA Glue to attach a block
to the end of the dowel and cut it off after i tapered the point. I was also thinking
about using a 45 degree bit in a router to point the end. I need to make at least 6 more.
