This fishtail is not shaped like any of the fishtail gouges I use for carving. First, all of them are curved profiles (#3 to #5). Second, carving gouges are beveled on the underside, not on the top. What is the likely use for a fishtail bench chisel?

It is good to know you can actually make the transformation at home. It would come in handy when you need to trim some edges off some storage cabinets or drawers. This tool would help those hard-to-reach places.
