Estate sale of a master craftsman (wood & tools) in Sherwood, OR on July 24 & 25 - 3 replies

Over the 4th of July I went home to help my mom get her mother & stepfathers house in order for an estate sale. My grandparents have moved into assisted living & my grandfather hasn’t been physically or mentally able to do any woodworking in a few years. They need the money, so we are doing an estate sale to raise funds rather than...

Looking for nice yew staff - 3 replies

I’m looking for a couple nice yew staffs, 2-4” in diameter 5-6’ tall reasonably straight. No luck poking around on Google for such a beast. I’m in Colorado these days, would be a lot easier back where I grew up in Oregon, but such is life.

Porter Cable 4216 dovetail jig... what am I doing wrong? - 12 replies

I knew nothing about dovetails until recently & bagged a PC 4216 to learn on & for an upcoming project. Tonight I finally got the chance to mess around with the jig. First try I was using some junk 1/4” plywood… Lets just say it shouldn’t make gunshot type noises when you hit it with the router. Tear-out doesn’...

Forrest WW2 vs Freud glue line rip & Ultimate cutoff (general blade vs swapping 2 specilized blades) - 3 replies

I did something stupid (cranked my saw over towards 45 degrees while my zero clearance insert was in) & apparently damaged my Delta blade. It still seems in good shape, but the left side of any cut is just fuzzy & nasty. So anyway I went over to Woodcraft with the intent of picking up a Forrest WW2 (and a new zero clearance insert) as...

Porter Cable 4216 dovetail jig & Bosch 1617 router? - 8 replies

I just ordered the PC 4216 dovetail jig (after a good bit of research on LJ) to try my hand at this whole dovetail thing. I’ve got a Bosch 1617 router. Will the bushings that come with the PC 4216 be compatible with my router, or do I need to get new bushings or an adapter? I saw something around here on LJ indicating the bushings &...

Unisaw bolt size & pitch question - 8 replies

Does anybody know what size the 2 holes in the back of the table are for a 1986ish vintage Unisaw? Trying to work up a mount for a cheap out-feed table I got that was missing it’s legs. Planning on putting some all-thread in the holes & drilling matching ones in the out-feed table & mounting it with wing nuts. However my hardwar...

There a better value than the Ridgid DP1550 Drill Press? - 7 replies

I’ve read all of the generally pretty good reviews on the DP1550 and like the look of them when browsing in HD. Is there any similar sized drill press in a similar price range that I should be looking at? Still cruising Craigslist and may end up going the used route instead of new. A couple have caught my eye including a half priced use...

Unisaw MDF extension wing - 7 replies

The used Unisaw I recently got has a pretty tore up 1” laminated MDF extension wing (54” fence 47 or 48” of MDF) on it. I can only track down 3/4” MDF locally. Should I just grab the 3/4” and adjust the brackets & shim or hold out and special order the 1”?

110v vs 220v (how to wire my new Unisaw)? - 14 replies

Just picked up my new 20ish year old 3hp Unisaw Right now I have 2 [email protected] 110v outlets I’ve personally wired into my garage (came with 1 GFCI & 1 non-GFCI outlet when we bought the house new). I’m planning on adding a couple more [email protected] 110v lines, or at least extending one of the current ones ...

Unisaw 83-651... manuals & what to look for buying used? - 1 reply

After all the responses on I think I’m gonna drive up to Denver and check out the Unisaw. It’s a little over an hour, so not too bad. I couldn’t find a manual or specs on Delta’s site (“Not available on-line, contact svc center.”)... Can anybody point me to a manual or at...

Best table saw in the $500ish range? - 50 replies

I just bought/returned a Craftsman 10 in. Table Saw model 21807. Cheap piece of junk was so flimsy & sloppy… You get what you pay for I guess. So now I’m in the market for a real table saw, probably a hybrid, maybe contractor in about the $500 range. Hopefully I can track down something actually decent this go around. IR...
