My new shop #1: Digging holes and setting posts

First thing to do was to remove two large hickories.

This was tricky because they had to fall between the house and the electric wires.

Next a friend came over and drilled the holes for the posts

This helped, but he only had an 11 inch auger (hole is 12+ inches in diameter) and the the code requires a 2’x2’ footer below the post. I took a digging bar and cut sideways to hollow out for the footer. the stick is 18’’ long

Here are the posts, standing plumb and in line notched to receive the the band beams.

The original plan was to do a pole building. I decided against it when I tried to heft a 14foot 6×6 by myself. The thought of notching the posts with a chainsaw while standing atop a ladder was another consideration. a friend suggested this hi-bred type and I went with it. But, this means I have to put the floor on first rather than the roof and walls.
