no previous part Part 1 of My Adventures in Woodworking series no next part

Little background….last year I was lucky enough to win my Sunday school class’ annual Chili Cook-off and brought home the coveted trophy (with Rolaids, Tums and other various medicines glued on it.) I had an idea in the back of my mind to “improve” it. So naturally I waited until the last day to begin my project. (Have you ever seen one of those shows where you are supposed to make a knife or something in an hour or so? Well, I put myself in that position to get my trophy holder built.)

My major headache was the light to spotlight the trophy. I could not find a store with anything with what I wanted so I went home and used a small LED flashlight. I cut the flashlight into thirds and tried my best to solder the pieces with some wire I had. I hid all this electronics under the roof on a hidden piece of wood. This part really used up most of my time.

(skipping over the sawing, mumbling, calling someone who knew what time the contest started, more mumbling, drilling, sanding, calling someone else who know where the contest was being held, not fitting, sweating, running out of time, etc.)

When it was time for me to leave, I bought up my trophy holder upstairs and showed it to my son. After trying to explain why the joints were off and so forth and so on about how horrible it was……he replied,
“Dad, it is an outhouse. It supposed to look that way.”

That’s Right! Of course it was meant to be built it this way!
(self-image restored, time to take a shower and give it to the next winner).

And the stuff that took so long….
