This is going to be a pedistal for a “between the recliners table” that I have been poking at for about 3 days now. When i started my only criteria was for it to be bottom (left is the botom) heavy. I was hopeing the final shape would come to me as I worked on it. So far I like the top shape but the bottom just dosent look right to me. I dont know maybe if I go stare at it a little more it will come to me. Maybe im just over thinking it I tend to do that alot.

What you’ve got looks pretty cool – and heavy. How big is it? What if that tenon on the bottom sat inside a donut the same shape as the one up top?

Thanks Jap

It is 19” long and 6” diaminter and yes very heavy. I never thought about a thicker plate at the bottom thats a great idea. thanks for the input.

I think it looks great, i really like it…

I also agree about a thick bottom plate…

I’d say for a test dig up a bunch of scrap and just look at it overall…

Although I dont know how large the top is going to be, but Id say try a base about 10” in dia. 2 1/2” thick and add a radius top and bottom using a much smaller one at the floor contact point…

I think it would look good, I love how screams, “GO AHEAD PUT IT ON, I CAN TAKE IT”

I like the looks of it. Great colors!

If you are not happy with it you could maybe try to make the lips down on the bottom round overs, more like the top. I don’t know how to put it in words really, the two parts that fade downward (on the lower part) and would look like a dress if it were standing I suppose, what if you took some of the edge off?... That way it would match the valley type groove on the top vs. the more of cliff style type on bottom.

Sorry if that doesn’t make any sense..
