no previous part Part 1 of Marquetry Panels, "Greek & Roman Mythology" series Part 2: Selecting Veneer, Cutting, Gluing »

These three marquetry panels are for a customer in Europe that I have made furniture for in the past. They have been waiting for almost three years for me to get started. They are history buffs and wanted three different panels. They sent me some pictures to go by.

To design the project I use AutoCad, then using colored pencils to help me figure out which types of veneer to use.

The size of each panel is 13” wide x 42” long.

1. Athena: The Goddess of wisdom, handicraft, and warfare. “Greek Mythology”

2. Mars: The God of War, “Roman Mythology”

3: Medusa: Generally described as a winged human female with living venomous snakes in place of hair. Gazers upon her face would turn to stone. “Greek Mythology”

The faces, of the three men are unknown to me. This should be a fun project for me since just finishing up three life size statues, and 2 1/2 years, this will be a much faster project.

Thank you for looking!!!

In true Dennis fashion, this won’t be easy or simple, will it? :)

Looks pretty good. It looks like your design pretty well contemplates how the pieces will need to be cut. You going to be using dyed veneers for colors or going to try and go all natural with the veneer selections?

Always fun to watch you at work Dennis.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, Iv’e been on this Lumberjocks web site for around 10 years and I still have fun posting.

Hi Gary, I’ll use a mix of some dyed veneers but mostly natural veneers. And It won’t be easy but it should be fun.
