Location: New Bedford, Ma.

I have worked in the construction trades for 25 yrs now.. as a painter, carpenter and now out of survival. I have a small shop roughly a 1500 sq feet and i have some equipment, Yates American j-170 wood lathe, Jet 10" table saw, Powermatic 6" jointer, Rockwell 15" Drill press Jet 18" band saw, 15" Grizzley Planer... Pretty much the standard equipment. I am how ever looking at hand tools and hand planes in a new light... And getting info from an old timer is hard at best because no one uses the dang things anymore.. but they are a must in the shop if your gonna do any precise work, in my opinion.. And that's why i am here.. I'm hoping to glean some insight and listen to the input of experienced wood workers who are willing to share their skills and not guard them as secrets.. i think to many secrets have passed on with those who kept them. Wood working for me is more than just an income.. its a way of life.. i've shifted my center in the shop and feel most comfortable there creating and making that perfect joint seeing the project come to completion and on to the finish... Hopefully i can pass on some of what i've learned while here as well.

Welcome to Lumber Jocks! This is a great place to get – or give – advice about woodworking on the forums and the project posts are a wonderful source of new ideas. I look forward to seeing your projects and posts.

To get the most feedback on your projects, it’s best only post 1 or 2 at a time. This way you will get feedback over several days and from a wide variety of members.

Please enjoy your membership.

WOW! thanks for the warm welcome!... I’ve been looking around the site and i think i have found a woodworkers heaven.. the skills sets here are wide and varied and i see there is something for everyone… Im gonna add to the collective with a shop furniture project… I picked up a Grizzley 15” planer.. and I’m gonna fabricate a base for it using steel bed frames and oak… Ive decided that my entire shop is going to be done in oak and all my shop furniture as well accept for my wood working bench… that is gonna take some thought.. i have a few ideas kicking around but that’s for a later date… So now that i made the big announcement… i better get to work… One question… when i post my projects do i post them under the projects tab?
And once again… Thanks for the Warm Welcome….

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless
