It was a feature, not a flaw! I added support ends on the cubby insert and that added a total of 1 inch to the length. The project is saved! Except for the ends the project is made from fiber board which is only finished on one side. I plan on painting it to match the shelf it will live in. -- Ni faru ion el ligno!

Nice recovery from a minor faux pas. That is what is so great about woodworking, it always presents a new challenge to prove how ingenious the woodworker is.
