Location: Maryville, TN

We relocated from an hour west of Chicago to 1/2 hour south of Knoxville TN mostly due to high taxes. But that is minor about what we love now where we live. We look at the first range of the Smoky Mountains and have a horse farm behind us with 3 horses that like to run and play.
I was able to build a 24X36 shop- 24X24 is wood shop with raised floor with electric outlets and an air duct running to my cyclone. The other 12X24 is a garage bay. My goal was to have a shop I could do anything I wanted/needed to do. So far it has been wildly successful.
Most of my machines are Shopsmiths. I have a 510/520, 2 minis (saw station and sanding station), drill press (very short base), and 2 machines connected together in lathe configuration. Turning length is around 7.5 feet. I think I have every Shopsmith accessory but might be missing one or 2 small ones. I also recently aquired a Fox SuperShop on a trade. I repair/refurbish Shopsmith tools and was able to trade some tools I repaired for the SuperShop. I also have a DeWalt 12" sliding miter saw and an 18" Laguna band saw and numerous smaller tools to "gitter-done! I heat it with a 55 gallon barrel stove (heard them called Yukon stoves too). It does a great job. I do have a couple A/C units but need more insulation for them to be able to keep up with the summer heat/humidity. It knocks about 4 degrees and a little moisture off outside temps. It is a metal building and I get too much radiant heat gain. I have a plan and some more rolls of insulation but need more time to get it installed.
My hobbies include (but not limited to), chasing the wife (around the dance floor of course- what were you thinking?). Fishing- both in lakes for crappie, bass, and other finned swimmers, but also in trout streams since there are several close. We also love to hike and living so near the Smokys we get there as often as we can- including some overnight stays. We are also very involved in our church. I also love to sing and recently joined a mens singing group at another church and enjoy it emmensely.
We moved here as a preemptive strike to retire and since I work from home, it made my job portable. My wife is a PT and easily found a job. I like to say I have been practicing what I plan to do in retirement for 15 years now. Life is good.
