I guess if you had to describe me in one word, it would be Navy. Over a quarter century worth and counting. I joined as a young man back in the 80's and served aboard Destroyers and deployed during the first Gulf War. Then, after only ~7 years I was seriously injured ("in the line of duty" but that's another story) and they placed me on permanent medical retirement and sent me to college. When I got out of school I chose to become a DOD civil servant. Fast forward and I am now a Sr. Aerospace Engineer and Lead Aviation Mishap Investigator for the USN... Still drawing that govt check.

I've always loved working with wood. Maybe it's in my blood. My Grandfather (whom I never met) was a very skilled artisan who carved detailed 2" deep reliefs on pairs of 12' doors on missions and churches throughout the Southwest.

I've had no formal training. Anything I have learned (and managed to remember) has been done the hard way. I've only recently found myself serious enough about woodworking to begin investing in tools and spending quality time just fiddling with wood in the shop.

I have no serious goals for my woodworking at this point. I just really seem to enjoy taking really nice pieces of wood and turning them to small enough pieces that they fit up the hose of my shop vac.
