Hello all, cheers for the welcome I've had to this excellent website, very friendly.
I've been working with wood ever since I was allowed sharp tools at 10 years old.My first projects were balsa framed, tissue covered gliders.
Other childhood projects included the obligatory bow & arrow, peg gun & boomerang.
The real passport into woodworking though was when we did woodturning at school when I was 14.
WOW,there are few thing in my creative life that have filled me with such excitement & enthusiasm.
Now I don't know what your schools were like but at my school we weren't allowed to use the power tools when the teacher wasn't in the room, something to do with insurance, but I couldn't help myself & snuck in during free periods & lunch hours, much to the chagrin of the teachers who awarded me several stints of detention for my pleasure.
I didn't care though & those early sessions on the lathe,a Union Graduate with a 4 foot bed & outboard spindle no less, lit a fire that still burns to this day 21 years later.
to be continued.....

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
God Bless
