I’m relatively new to woodworking but pretty good at general home renovations. I’ve decided to build a live edge coffee table for our living room. I’ve bought a maple slab of varying width 21”-32” X 67” X 2” . I will cut part of the top and bottom to eliminate the jagged edge and chain saw mark. I will have a steel base/legs fabricated. I have a couple questions:

1. The slab has a bit of cupping and twist to it. I was planning on addressing the cupping with an electric planer and then finishing it by hand. Good or bad idea? I probably have min 1/2” of material to take off in the middle.
2. Do I have to address this on both sides?
3. I have a crack in the middle (in some spots it goes all the way through) that I was planning on fixing with epoxy, I don’t want to use bowties. Recommendations on which product to use.
4. Given that this a coffee table, should I finish it the same way underneath as I would on the top?

Thanks in advance for your help.
