My wife has been after me for years to do some woodworking. I kept telling her I would if I had the tools. Things started to get serious when my son and wife bought me a benchtop bandsaw for Fathers Day in 2008. I still resisted used the excuse that I didn't have the time, after all I work a full time job to pay the bills. But I did start some woodworking research and found The Woodwhisperer and Matt's Basement Woodshop Podcasts.
Then in August 2008, the company I work for was throwing out a large and very heavy conference room table, hmm... this could make a large work bench. They let me take the table just to get it off their hands. The forces of nature seem to be drawing me into woodworking, so I stopped fighting it and began building my "Man Cave" in September. Our old kitchen cabinets have been in our basement for a couple of years and it was time to put them to good use again. I spent a couple months building the "cave" waterproofing, adding electrical outlets, lights, etc. You can see the "Cave" in my work shop photos.
My journey into woodworking is just beginning. I completed my first real project in April 2009, night stands, and now wonder why I waited so long to start. I find myself excited to get home from work so I can get to the cave.
BTW... my wife loves shopping for woodworking tools, I'm so lucky.
