Carvings in Process #1: Venom Carving
I was asked to carve a Venom bust from for a fiend’s son. I wanted it to be as close to lifesize as possible. The largest piece of stock I had available was a piece of pressure treated 4” x 6”, 18” long. This is only my second wood carving, so I wasn’t sure how to accomplish this task. First, the concept: I knew I would have to cheat some of the proportions to fit the blank I had. This was my rough sketch: Shaping, shaping, shaping. All done with a hand saw and a 4” grinder with a flap wheel.
