Workbench Lift & Mobility Option - 4 replies

Walmart has the Mighty King 16 x 40 Desk Lift on sale for $92. It’s rated up to 600lbs, I think this would be a good option for someone looking for a workbench lift. Here’s a video of it in action.

Mixing two wood types, what's your favorite? - 25 replies

Last year, I made a cabinet out of oak with flat walnut panels for the doors. I wasn’t sure how it would sell, but it didn’t last long on the floor. Once I get caught up, I’d like to make a couple more cabinets with contrasting woods. The next one I get too will be a walnut cabinet with curly maple doors. What are some of th...

Spraying hard to reach areas - 10 replies

I sprayed this cherry cabinet with garnet shellac and EM8000cv. Because of the lip on the trim, I had a hard time getting the sprayer into positions to spray this area on the bottom front. The shellac sprayed fine and filled the area, probably because was only a 1lb cut. I didn’t do so well covering the area with the CV. I plan to rub i...

carcass vs carcase - 9 replies

My wife told me I shouldn’t use the word carcass when talking about cabinets to customers because it sounds like I’m referring to a dead animal. Well, I was just googling cabinet carcass trying to point out to her that other wood guys use the term as well and found a couple sites that use “carcase” for cabinets as well as...

Just a heads up, Acme Tools is offering 15% off any one item today only. The discount will work on just about anything except festool & sawstop and is capped at $150 (any item up to $1000). How do you fix a ding? - 3 replies

Just my luck, I was putting the doors on this cabinet after I finished spraying it and put a ding on the trim. Other than sanding & refinishing, are there any other options to fix this? It’s cherry coated with garnet shellac and target coatings conversion varnish.

Flat Panel Door with Dutchman - 3 replies

I want to make a door like this for a cabinet I’m working on. Is this is 1/4” solid stock or is it thicker? What do you think they did for the groove in the center? V-groove router bit or run it through the table saw?

I really like my fingers - 38 replies

I was just perusing through some youtube woodworking videos and it really amazes me how many amateurs lack any type of shop safety. I’m not perfect by any means, but this is some blatantly stupid stuff. 1. The guy is cutting a board on his table saw and feeding it with a grrriper, but then reaches across the saw to pull the board while ...

Any input on the G1317 outfeed roller system? - 0 replies

I need a solution for handling larger sheets goods on my G0690 table saw. I like how the roller system folds down for storage. I was ready to pull the trigger on it, but after reading up on it, there seems to be some concerns about the rollers possibly marring the wood. One review said the rollers had some runout on them. I’m looking for s...

Parallel Clamps - 14 replies

From reading the forums, it seems everyone really loves the Jet parallel clamps. How much better are they than the Bessey clamps? HD has Bessey on sale right now, $39.97 for a 50”. The best price I can find on a Jet is $63.00. Are they worth that much more?

Transtint Dye & Popping Grain - 7 replies

I picked up a bunch of Transtint dyes and made some samples of each color. My goal is to see how each color would come out when darkened with a stain using Jeff Jewitt’s approach. The samples are on red oak. Here’s my color samples. Each piece was sanded to 180, wiped down with water, left to dry overnight, sanded the f...

Ebay Cyclone - Two Thumbs Up! - 4 replies

I wanted to wait and post this project when it was finally completed, but I can’t help myself. I’m so happy with the way it works, I wanted to share it with everyone here. I picked up this cyclone on ebay after reading a couple positive reviews on some forums about it. I wasn’t expecting much, but I was tired of dealing with...

Face Frame Cabinets - 7 replies

I want to make two storage cabinets for my shop out of white melamine to match up with another cabinet I already have. The cabinets will be 84” high x 36” wide x 24” deep. My idea is to make the frames out of poplar (which I already have a bunch of) and paint the frames white. What’s the best procedure to go about mountin...

Rust Remover as low as $.25 a quart. - 10 replies

I was at Lowe’s yesterday checking out some stuff in the paint department and noticed they had some Jasco Prep & Primer on clearance for $1.28 a bottle. Regular price is a little over $6/bottle. It contains phosphoric acid which is the same stuff in naval jelly. I walked out with two bottles, went home and sprayed some on an old jointe...

What's your time worth? - 5 replies

The only machine I need to complete my new shop is a jointer. Grizzly is out of it at the local store until the end of June and I’ve been looking for a used one in the meantime. I’ve come to the conclusion today that I have wasted so much time searching for deals on used tools on CL and auction site the past couples months, if I spen...

Which Jointer - 8" x 76" or 12" x 55" bed - 9 replies

I’m putting together my new workshop and have just about everything I need except a jointer. I decided I really want at least an 8” jointer. I’ve been searching CL for the last few months and nothing of interest is coming up, either they’re beat or they want too much money. I’m really leaning towards a Grizzly G0490...
