As usual, the design process begins with a Vision and some Imagination and a cocktail-napkin scribble. This is one of my favorite parts and the most important element of the project. The time spent with my customer making details come to life is critical and can set the tone for the entire project. As luck would have it, this project is for a dear friend who lives about 90 minutes away. We drew up that cocktail napkin over a year ago…

This is my design, created in AutoCAD, crafted in my single-car garage-sized shop. The goal is to have it installed by Labor Day, 2012. Fingers crossed!

Wow that’s getting close to deadline!

Hand tools or power tools, or combination?
