While everyone else at my house was napping yesterday I gave hand cut dove tails another try. This was my 2nd attempt.

They aren’t the good, but they aren’t the worse I’ve seen.

I’ve been trying this too. It’s a great joint to master. I’ve tried rubbing a little sawdust and glue into the joint, and it makes it look free of any gaps.

They look good to me. I’ve made a fair amount of stuff buy have yet to do dovetails. I will get to it someday.

Stick with it. Those don’t look bad for #2. My twelve year old asked me to teach him to do dovetails this weekend. I showed him once and then let him try. They weren’t pretty but he was proud to have done it. He said “This is a lot harder than it looks when you do it.” but he definitely has a new appreciation. I told him there are guys that do these in 6 minutes!

hi Chuck, they look great for a 2nd attempt. still room for improvement but i tell you this, my second try ( 3-4 yrs ago) did not look half as good at these, practice thats the only way.

i am used to make drawers like that, and at the moment i am making 4 Hans J Wegner writing desks with 3 drawers on each.. peeew, 12 hand cut dovetail drawers. i’ll post a pic here tomorrow :)

good luck Chuck
