Menards Folding Steel Sawhorse MX047

Menards Folding Steel Sawhorse MX047

04-23-2017 07:28 PM by Kurt T. Kneller | 14 comments »

I came across these the other day and decided to pick up a couple and give them a try. Over the years I have collected many sets of the plastic folding style saw horses. The problem is eventually some have failed and have been replaced, now I have a hodge podge collection with multiple elevations (even the same mfgr). I never did like the plastic ones and I thought they were a pain to store. There are several things that I really like about the MasterForce sawhorses. 1) Capacity – ...

Another Harbor Freight Gem

Another Harbor Freight Gem

I picked this hoist up today to install my new Grizzly G0572 Air Filter (see my other review). This little dandy made it a piece of cake to install my air filter by myself. What was really nice about it is the overalllength when fully raised. It what short enough to get the air filter up to the ceiling. My regular chain fall was way to long. With the 20% coupon I paid about $35. If you are going to hang anything like a air filter pick one up and save your back.

Just finished hanging it....

Just finished hanging it....

10-08-2015 01:19 AM by Kurt T. Kneller | 6 comments »

Well my new Grizzly G5072 air filter showed up today and I just finished hanging it.Packaging was in real good shape and the unit itself seems really solid so does the overall quality.I was using a Performax from Menards, but it just was not cutting it. I still had a lot of dust throughout my shop (2 car garage). With the Grizzly I should have a turnover rate of about 20/hr vs the 7/hr with the Performax. The Grizzly is really quite and it is definitely moving a whole bunch of air. You can ...

New Shop Lights

New Shop Lights

10-04-2015 07:50 PM by Kurt T. Kneller | 8 comments »

My shop is a 2 car garage (2 cars….must be fiats) and there is only (1) window and (2) over head single light sockets. It gets pretty dark in there now once the sun goes down. I have been planning on putting up 3 banks of 4’ fluorescent lights and running them to switches on the wall. I was researching here and various forums for advice on proper lighting and used recommended formulas. Those calculations were telling me I needed about 9-12 fixtures. That seemed like overkill. ...

Jessem Rout-R-Lift II - Preliminary Review & Purchasing Experience

Jessem Rout-R-Lift II - Preliminary Review & Purchasing Experience

09-03-2015 12:00 AM by Kurt T. Kneller | 3 comments »

Well, my new Jessem Rout-R-Lift II finally was delivered today. This review is preliminary at this time and still need to complete my router table before using it. So, I can only comment on whole experience to date. The 3 star rating at this time is a reflection on the customer service and purchasing experience.I give 4 stars on initial inspection. The Purchasing Experience:I placed the order, through JessemDirect.com on August 4th, and regrettably used PayPal to place the order. I com...

Grizzly G0555LX - 14" Deluxe Bandsaw - Love it

Grizzly G0555LX - 14" Deluxe Bandsaw - Love it

08-14-2015 12:54 AM by Kurt T. Kneller | 8 comments »

I bought this bandsaw this past spring. I also bought the riser block to obtain a 12” cutting capacity.I really like this saw, it has plenty of power, runs smooth with no vibration. Fit an finish was on the mark and assembly was straight forward. I did have to add shims to the riser block, other than that is has been performing well for me. It has cut everything I have asked it to (and some I didn’t ….. 9 stiches right index finger) from mdf to plywood to oak and I am su...

Grizzly G0452 6" Jointer

Grizzly G0452 6" Jointer

08-14-2015 12:45 AM by Kurt T. Kneller | 3 comments »

I purchased this jointer this spring. In a nutshell, I am more than pleased. I do wish that I could have got the 8” jointer but budgets are what they are and when putting together a shop money has to be spread around.I think the fit and finish is spot on. The tables and fence are flat and move smoothly and have a nice finish. The damn thing runs really smooth with no vibration and can fill my chip bin faster than #####. It has handled everything I have fed it. I did hit a knot tha...

Vega Pro 50 Fence - Long winded

Vega Pro 50 Fence - Long winded

08-14-2015 12:30 AM by Kurt T. Kneller | 8 comments »

I needed to increase the cutting capacity of my table saw and last fall I bought a Vega Pro 50 fence system. I originally wanted to get a Biesemeyer, but I really need both my legs and both my arms. My table saw is a Rigid 2424. I wanted to use the fence for a while before writing a review. I have put it through the paces and the following is my take on the fence. Aftermarket fences can be really expensive and may require a good amount of modifications to your table saw. That was not ...

FastCap Fastbreak

FastCap Fastbreak

08-13-2015 12:17 AM by Kurt T. Kneller | 2 comments »

Just a quick review.I picked up a FastCap Fastbreak sander the other day at Menards. I an currently building a router cabinet and working on the drawers which will have the plywood edges covered with veneer tape. This little thing is pretty cool. It works great for putting on a slight bevel on the veneer let alone cleaning up the edges of the bare plywood. It really makes short work of treating the edges. I highly recommend this.
