I have an order, kind of , for 5 or 6 segmented salad bowls. I am thinking cherry and perhaps an accent wood. I need suggestions. My first thought was cherry and wallnut. reason being I have access to both of these at a pretty reasonable price. Fact is the cherry might be free. I have turned Cherry before and had a little tear out. Is that somet...

Chraftsman Router for JessEm 2 - 2 replies

Santa brought me a JessEm ll router lift. One of the recommended routers for this lift is a Chraftsman #1754/17540. I have a Chraftsman #320.17543. Does anyone know the difference between what I have and the recommended. Eventually I want to get a Bosch 1617/1618 router. Not in the budget right at the moment. Charlie

Ridgid R4331 planer - 5 replies

I was reading some of the reviews from LJers and no one had mentioned the over heating and circuit breaker trip problem that seemed to be mentioned frequently on Home Depots reviews on this machine. Has this issue been resolved? I don’t know if I am in the market right now or not. I have a old Jet that so far I am pretty happy with but ...

Jointer Blade Setting Jig - 2 replies

Hi guys. I found this on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/301545487244?dest=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2F301545487244 and wondered if the magnets are strong enough to hold the blades in alignment until I can tighten the screws. I got new blades for my jointer and setting them on this machine is a bear. The biggest problem is all of the ...

Enco Jointer - 6 replies

Hey guys, you were so much help in locating new blades for my Jet planer I thought you might know something about blades for my 6” Emco jointer. Thickness planer advice - 10 replies

Hey guys I need your advice on thickness planers. My old Jet 12 1/2’ Planer is slowly crapping out. As far as I know the blades are no longer available. It is making a lot of noise and it’s not doing the job it used to do.Budget on a new planer is a little of an issue. I had been looking at the Dewalt three blade unit.I also have bee...

Ridgid R4512 caster system - 6 replies

I have a new R4512 table saw that I recently purchased and put together. The saw, as far as I can tell, was perfect right out of the box. I have used it several rimes and for the most part I am pleased. The one problem I do have is it seems like Ridgid changed their caster system at some point. All of or most of the videos that I have seen s...

Dust collection - 14 replies

Let me start by saying I am not sure this post is in the right area. If it isn’t let me know where it should be. I have been wanting for some time to revamp my dust collection system. A friend referred me to a article in a magazine titled “Best Ever Woodshops” or something like that. The article was titled “dust-defyin...

Padauk Question - 4 replies

I have a piece of Padauk that I will be incorporating into a bowl that I am going to be turning. When I pick this piece of lumber up it feels kind of like a sticky substance on the surfaces. Pink vs White grinding wheels - 12 replies

After betting a very badly warped wheel on line (white) that wobbled so bad that my grinder which is bolted to a piece of plywood and clamped to my work bench shook the clamps loose and the grinder kind of danced around my bench.I stopped at Woodcraft this after noon and picked up another wheel (pink this time) which prompted the question in my ...

Grinder Questions - 10 replies

I am thinking about getting a bench grinder and learn to sharpen my own tools. Been watching Craigs list but not much comes up. There are a lot of grinders but they are mostly 6” high speed. This raised the question in my mind, would a 6” high speed grinder work. High speed vs low speed. 6” vs 8” and 1/2 hp vs 3/...

HF Lathe Comparisons - 5 replies

Well written review OSU55 on HF #34706. You have me almost sold. Both these machines seem to have good reviews. If I was only interested in turning pens then the smaller lathe would work fine probably. But I am sure that the 18” limit on turning length would eventually become a huge issue with me.It seems that the #35444 tool set would work...
