Location: Mountains of North Eastern Tennessee

Have been butchering wood and making sawdust for about 40+ years... Started getting serious around 20 years ago and added a 16x23 addition onto my garage and immediately wanted more room. My dream was to have a shop big enough to walk around my tools and have everything mounted solidly instead of on wheels. Retired in 2007 when Ford said 43 years was long enough and offered me a bag of money to go away -- luckily there were no friends standing between me and the door... While visiting friends, we fell in love with the Tennessee mountains and decided to buy some property and I started designing my new shop (and our new house too..). In 2008 we began work on the pole-barn destined to be my new shop.. We lived in that off and on while the new house was being built in 2009 and in 2010 we kissed Michigan goodbye and moved to Tennessee.. We love it here....

New part of life... I went back to work.. Had no intentions about returning to work but I saw an advertisement from the Woodcraft Store in Knoxville.. They were looking for a few retired woodworkers willing to work part-time. I applied and got a job. I now work weekends at the store and absolutely love working around some very talented woodworkers and meeting new people who come into the store. If you're ever in the Knoxville area, please stop in the store and say hello..

Carl, Came back to your home page from your projects. Like the bike rocker! I’m truley envious of where you live and what you have done. Unlike me you are a man of few words???? LOL Have you made your projects from clearing the trees from the property?

Oh yeah Welcome to LJ’s, a place for all woodworkers!

Am new to LumberJocks and would like to know how to respond to comments on my projects…. Some comments are questions and I would like to answer each question without just adding another comment in the line…

Response to Doc Savage45;
The property I now live on has no trees except for a row of large cedars along what looks like an old fence line… Have added several trees since moving in but they’re more for landscaping.. I still have some oak planks left over from some trees cleared from my Sister’s place in Michigan.. Also have several oak planks purchased 8-9 years ago from a long retired woodworker who’s stash was 30-40 years old (I suspect much older). That stuff is so HARD that it breaks off screws even though I pre-drill oversize pilot holes—maybe I’ll just drill and tap threads next time.. My stash of un-milled cherry is running low and I’m down to 1 plank of very cherished black walnut…

I lived in Arkansas for 5 years, Memphis area for @ 1yr. A long time ago. Loved the Ozarks. Imagined you In a remote area,

Really enjoyed the Bike Rocker.

I’ve got some hardwood sitting under a lot of pine and fir and construction stuff. Hope I can get to it before it gets too hard?

Lookin forward to your next projects.
