Blotchy Stain - 7 replies

I’m getting some weird lines in my stain on this pine. I would swear it’s glue residue but I sanded it from 60-220 right before I stained. It’s just in the wood. Did I do anything incorrect or is it just an imperfection in that particular piece of wood?

New to shapers and can't get it adjusted - 6 replies

I’ve recently made the switch from a router table to a Shopfox 3hp shaper, and I’m pulling out what little hair that I do have. I’m exclusively doing shaker style doors using the Grizzly matching 1/2” set. My doors are fighting me every step of the way. Even with a power feeder, I’m not getting an even cut down...

Powermatic Knife Grinder for 221 or 180 - 6 replies

I came across a Powermatic knife grinder that I thought was for a 221. I’ve had someone message me saying their holes are 31” apart on their 221, so it may actually be for a 180. Does anyone have a PM180 that they can measure the mounting holes and let me know how far apart they are. Thanks!

Treated lumber dry time - 10 replies

I’ve got some treated decking to make chairs with at a customers request. I know this stuff is going to dry pretty bad but I’ve never built furniture with treated lumber. I typically use cypress or cedar for outside. Any ideas on what I can do to prevent my end products from being ruined when they dry? I can’t wait 3 months to...

Powermatic vs Jet 15HH - 32 replies

With the sale starting March 4th, I’ve decided to upgrade from my Dewalt 735. I can’t make the math work to justify buying a Grizzly, so I’ve decided on either the Powermatic or Jet 15” planers. Powermatic 15HH $3,050 – 10% sale ~ $2,750Jet 15HH $2,750 – 15% sale ~ $2,350 The machines are near identical...

Grizzly Coupon? - 2 replies

I’m in the market for a new planer and potentially a jointer as well. Currently I’m using a Dewalt 735 which as nice as it is, just isn’t cutting it (see what I did there). I’ve been eyeballing the Powermatic 15HH and heard their 10% off sale is going to start March 4th. However, for a couple hundred dollars more, I co...

Powermatic 33B Question - 0 replies

I was able to purchase a used PM 33B recently and am trying to convert it to the 30B by adding a disk. I have already purchased the new pulley assembly, but still need a 12” disk to bolt to it. Does anyone know if the 3 hole Delta disk will fit the pattern? They look close from pictures, but I can’t be sure. Thanks!

Delta 36-L352 Unisaw - 0 replies

I just picked up my new Delta Tablesaw from Home Depot. They are currently selling them 20% with free shipping to the store until December 31, 2014. After reading quite a few reviews, I just don’t see how you can go wrong with a Unisaw, especially when upgrading from a Grizzly contractor’s saw. Does anyone have any advice on ass...

Delta 36-L336 Tablesaw - 1 reply

These things are on sale right now everywhere for a significant discount. With my additional Lowe’s 10% coupon I bought online, it drops down under $2500 before taxes. Anyone know why and should I avoid purchasing? Currently using a Grizzly 444Z. It would be a massive upgrade.

Flag and Medal Display Case - 4 replies

I’ve recently been asked to make a display case that will hang on the wall for a friend’s deceased WWII Veteran father’s flag and a few medals. I tend to over critique my own work as it is, so building something of this significance will be a huge challenge. First and foremost: Is there a certain wood that is considered ...

First Time Builder - New 30 x 40 Workshop - 21 replies

My wife and I have recently purchased 27 acres in Arkansas close to where we currently live. Since I enjoy woodworking and building things myself, I thought, “Why not build my own shop and get some good practice before attempting a house in the same area?” There is an abundance of building knowledge on here so I turn to my fellow l...

Red Oak Chest of Drawers Finish - 15 replies

I’m currently working on a chest of drawers for my neice that just turned 5 and am wondering about what finish people recommend. I’ve used red oak plywood for the sides and solid red oak for the top and facing. The problem is that the solid red oak is a lot more red. I wanted to stain it a little darker anyway, and I think tha...

Chest of Drawer Plans Help - 5 replies

So my only neice’s birthday is next month and her mother said she really needs a chest of drawers. She’s turning 5 and has only had a cheap particle board dresser from wal-mart and a toy box that I made up to this point. The dresser is coming apart and needs to be replaced. We grew up out in the country with not a lot of funds, so...
