SketchupFree - 20 replies

SO I have been using 16 for a while which is a download to your computer. Decided to upgrade to latest free version. It is now web based and not at all user friendly IMHP. Anyone else discovered this and are there any good new tutorials out there? I thought I had a good handle on the SketchupMake but this has thrown a steep learning curve i...

Festool Reconditioned Sales - 10 replies

Just an observation but I have been receiving numerous emails from Festool about low prices on reconditioned tools. Today was PDC18 5.2Ah Cordless drill set for $450 plus tax. Amazon has the exact tool, new condition, for $20 plus tax with full warranty. Is Fes trying to pull the proverbial wool over our eyes?

I plan on using 14” ply for the bottoms. My question is whether to cut rabbits on the bottom of all sides or to ffset 1/4” and cut a dado. The drawers w...

Dados for panels - 1 reply

My current project will have 1/2” floating panels and will be dado’d in to a 1/2” w x 1/4” dado’d frame. The panels are approx 15” wide and 20” tall and consist of 3 boards of mesquite jointed together. I know movement is an issue laterally and that glue should be used sparingly, maybe a dab in the ...

Dovetail drawers - 5 replies

I will be making some drawers that I would love to dovetail, probably half blind front and back. I have an Incra jig for the DT’s. My question is can I use 1/2” stock or does it need to be 3/4”? I would prefer 1/2” due to mazimizing inside drawer area and weight..

I am building the wife a jewelry armoire that will have swinging doors on the side to contain necklaces. The door will be located on top of the base. Single half blind DT - 5 replies

I am using half blind DT’s for a door frame for a jewelry armoire. The frame is approximately 2.5” wide and 3/4 stock. Frame size approximations are 18” tall by 14” deep. There will be a 1/2” panel installed on the door in a dado. My question is I think the single HB DT should be set 1/2” in to the verti...

Stability of Hard Maple - 21 replies

I am using one side of hard maple as a substrate for mesquite veneer. The maple side will be the side that drawer hardware attaches to for a chest. Was curious as to the movement stability of hard maple. I have thought of baltic birch also (very stable) but not sure how edge banding that would look (of course I have to edge band the maple als...

Bandsawed Veneer - How to install - 12 replies

I have decided I want to cut some mesquite veneers on my bandsaw. I am thinking about cutting 1/8 or 3/16” think to allow for sanding. I have a Performax 16-32 sanded so not an issue. My question is what is the best way to install this thicker veneer. Most video demos are for the VERY thin veneers that are available commercially. I d...
