I am still in the process of preparing my garage-workshop. I anticipated that my first big woodworking project would be a traditional-style workbench. But I adjusted my sights to a more realistic level (see my first project).
My interest in woodworking, from high school and earlier (following basic instruction from dad..) was first rekindled by the prospect of building an old-time minstrel-style banjo, circa 1840’s, as well as some other folk instruments. I have set luthiery to the side while while I focus on developing more general woodworking skills, and am trying to take advantage of the opportunity to build some furniture items for my home.
I enjoy reading, viewing, and being inspired by the work of others here.
Cheers!
Bill

Thank you for the kind welcome! I moved this year from an apartment to a house and I am in the process of preparing my garage workshop (big job—have to grind and epoxy the floors, repair the walls, and paint). I am designing a workbench and recently considered building some end tables too. Of course, I have yet to buy and set up my tools: probably a Grizzly 3HP TS, and a (low HP) Delta BS and DP, and DeWalt Router Kit unless I change my mind. I have been reading FWW magazine for several years and just got my first copy of Woodsmith. So far, my stack of books is higher than my stack of sawdust, but I am looking forward to balancing that out. My interest in woodworking (from high school and earlier) was first rekindled by the prospect of building a musical instrument with strings (for instance, maybe an old-time minstrel-style banjo~1840’s vintage). I have sort of put luthiery on the back burner for the time being, but I haven’t totally forgotten about it either! ; ) Thank you for the kind welcome. I look forward to learning from you and with you.

Welcome to Lumber Jocks! This is a great place to get – or give – advice about woodworking on the forums and the project posts are a wonderful source of new ideas. I look forward to seeing your projects and posts.
To get the most feedback on your projects, it’s best only post 1 or 2 at a time. This way you will get feedback over several days and from a wide variety of members.
Please enjoy your membership.
