Any body work with Casting resin? - 9 replies

I had a burl that I started to turn and it had some big empty spaces where the bark pulled off. So I had some alumilite clear casting resin that I have used on small projects. I mixed it per instructions and poured it in a make shift container. The problem now seems that some of the edges are soft. I am afraid that the middle might be soft too....

Inlay Question - 15 replies

I plan on inlaying a sand dollar into the top of a wine stopper for a present. I plan on drilling a recess for the sand dollar to lay in. My question is what do I use to cover the sand dollar and keep it in place? I was thinking epoxy but I am sorta worried about the wine ruining the epoxy top. Is there something else to use?

New Candle sticks - 3 replies

Turned these for a present. Turned out of tiger wood and just a deft finish on them. The first one took awhile to get down to size because of the old saying “you can put the wood back on after you shaved it off”. I took it pretty slow. It was well worth it though.

I am new to turning and have turned some wine stoppers and grunt calls etc. I have been reading about the finishes etc. Right now I am sanding all my wood to about 1200 then I just put on beeswax and it gives a pretty look (more natural) I think.
