I imported goods and incurred £4.63 customs charge. Thats OK I was expecting it.
However I was charged £8.00 collection fee by the Royal Mail. thats about $13 (Robbing Ba$%&*&’s).

If you are importing to the UK have your seller mark the package “Goods to be Customs Cleared by the Importer” in large clear letters.

No royal mail handling charge will be payable and you will receive invoice for customs that you have to pay directly. Delays things slightly but no more than the way parcel force send you a letter normal post with website link to pay customs plus their handling fee.

I live in Ireland and am originally from Wales, I would never dream of having something from the U.S. sent to the UK having been stung about 10 years ago. I bought a Stanley #2 and had to pay £30 for them to release it after paying almost $200 for it. I handed over Northern Irish Sterling and the guy wouldn’t accept it I demanded to see his superviser at the depot, she turned out to be my neighbour…. so I had a small victory but a hard lesson learned. What I’ve learned here in Ireland if you keep the orders under $100 they won’t bother. I ordered about $180 of stuff from Rockler and was charged 22euro VAT. Not too bad but since then I keep the orders to a minimum. Germany’s worse. A friend of mine from the U.S. studying in Germany had to pay 15euro for a care package her parents sent over. All that was in there was about $30 of sweets and photographs

Wow, the knowledge you learn after the fact can be expensive. I am sure there is a reasonable reason for it
