34 years old, wife, two dogs, and a new baby boy, we live in Marietta PA.

Hmm… What can we do with scrap wood? I work almost exclusively with scrap wood from shipping crates, and I would like to point out that there are several reasons I use scrap rather then quality lumber.
1. Can’t afford high quality lumber.
2. Not entirely sure if I can pull off any given project and don’t feel bad messing up scrap wood.
3. Want to make something beautiful and functional out of something ugly and useless.

These are just my reasons but I think some people can relate. I put a lot of weight on #3 so even when I have the money and know I can do the project, sometimes I use scrap anyway.

Due to some recent concerns I looked into the construction and use of the shipping crates that I get. Turns out that crates are all untreated Douglass Fir and are not used to transport any dangerous materials.

-- I played with Legos as a kid and I never had the part I thought I needed, so I learned to improvise. Now I'm an engineer with a woodworking hobby.

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome!
I have been checking the site for months now and love looking through the projects and reading reviews and found myself wanting to comment on some of these great projects.
I dabble in woodworking and have been collecting old crate wood from work to mess around with, its all pine but its free so i don’t feel bad trying new techniques and scraping the failures.
I hope to put up some pix and projects in the future.

It’s good to be here:)
