My name is Brian. I'm an air traffic controller. Formerly I was a flying mechanic (Crew Chief) on two of the largest planes in the US military arsenal: C-17 Globemaster III and C-5 Galaxy. I've been to more than 50 countries and 31 states. I have been a paid mechanic twice in my life. I've worked on houses, boats, yachts, cars, trucks, and I've built two Jeeps from the ground up! I love working with my hands. I'm an avid golfer, I play basketball 5 days a week, and I speak professionally on occasion.

I got into woodworking when I was stationed in Northern California 4 years ago. I bought a miter saw from Harbor Freight in Oregon (no sales taxes :-D). I built a workbench and a few add ons such as drawers, a vise, and shelving. Moving to South Georgia, I found a treasure trove of used equipment on Craigslist. My 22x22 garage transformed from a carport to a full on wood shop. I've since built a number of different woodworking projects. I enjoy tinkering with machines as well. I have also taken influence from some of the more prominent YouTube maker sensations in my building and tinkering.

I hope to gain some insight from a more accessible community of woodworkers through this site. The greatest pleasure from woodworking is the depth of the craft. A buddy of mine gave me perspective into the world of hand tools. He used hand tools primarily. He has Disston saws and even planes that are 200 years old! I have yet to get as far into hand tools as he has, but I've expanded my own insight through his friendship. The more people I can gain insight from, the greater I can propel my own skillset and appreciation of the craft.

In closing, I'm excited to be a part of this site and this community. Please be patient with me as I am a student of the craft--a coachable one at that! I look forward to meeting all of you, and I hope we can learn from each other through our own experiences gained along this journey towards craft mastery!
