Bookcase header and footer movement - 1 reply

When building bookcase with a toekick (footer) or header, is it necessary to allow for movement? The toekick I am looking to put is about 4 inches wide and is solid wood.

Resawing on bandsaws - 7 replies

How much of a difference would there be for a 14 inch bandsaw with riser block vs a 17 inch bandsaw for resawing boards? Im looking at the Grizzly G0555 and the Grizzly G0513 and am debating which to purchase. Im guessing resawing 12 inch boards will happen only once in a while; the majority of boards will be around 6 inches or less.

Need help deciding between jack planes - 56 replies

I currently do not own a jack plane and I’m looking to buy one. I am having a tough time deciding between two: Stanley No. 5 type 18 in good condition for 50 dollarsor Lee Valley low angle jack plane for 250 dollars I’m wondering if the LV low angle jack is worth the extra 200 dollars. Hand plane for table top glue ups - 5 replies

I am making an oak table top. I glued up some oak boards and one of the boards ended up slightly higher on one end. I was thinking of some of my options for leveling the board. I don’t have much experience with hand planes so was wondering which hand plane would be good for flattening the table top glue up?

Glue over finish? - 3 replies

Will wood glue work over Danish oil? I did a poor job of taping one of the mortise and tenon joints and a load of Danish oil went inside the mortise. Some also got on the tenon.
