Jet Riser Block - bolt size? - 5 replies

Does anyone happen to know the correct bolt size for a Jet riser block? I’ve found a riser block set from a local guy for cheap – but the kit doesn’t have the longer bolt. Was thinking I might be able to use a standard bolt if I knew the proper size…

Biscuit joiner or router with biscuit bit - 22 replies

So I already have a woodriver biscuit bit for my router (with table). Though I was debating to buy a biscuit joiner just for the dedicated tool so I don’t have to set up the router table every time I need biscuits. Other than convenience, and the ability to set the blade at an angle easily, is there really any other reason for the dedicated b...

Quality of Sanders... - 5 replies

I’m looking to add a belt/disc sander combo to my shop, and looking at all ends of the spectrum in price… From HF’s $250 to Jet’s $850… One thing I’ve never been able to get was the difference in quality for sanders, and the justification for a 3x price differential. When I look at the HF, it’s a 1HP...

Where to buy a small scale kiln - 13 replies

Let me start by saying, yes, I know I could build my own… But I already have too many projects, and this is just one thing I don’t feel putting brain power or much effort into… That said, does anyone know of a source for buying a finished kiln for small scale home use? I’m looking at basically one tree’s worth ...

Preferred method of hollowing out a board? - 16 replies

I’ve got an oak 2×8, about 6’ long, which I’m making into a light fixture. As such, I’m going to hollow out 1” about 6” by 5’. So essentially I’d just have a box made from a solid piece of wood. But the hollow part doesn’t have to look good, it’s just for cords to be hidden. ...

Bug bomb for powder post beetles? - 11 replies

I have some old pine barn wood that’s been laying around for about a year. I went to check it out today and noticed tiny piles of sawdust. So I’m assuming there are powder post beetles in the wood.Question: would a Raid bug bomb kill them if I wrapped the whole thing up in an enclosure about 4×3x8? Or do I need to get some ot...

Looking to buy a shingle froe - 20 replies

I’m looking to buy a shingle from, and can’t find too many places that seem to sell new ones for a reasonable price ($80 is probably my max). Does anyone have any suggestions for a good brand of froe to look for?

Thinking of adding a riser block to my old Jet bandsaw, Advice? - 17 replies

I have an older Jet bandsaw that gets a fair amount of use, but not daily by any means. I typically leave a 3/4” blade on the Jet all of the time, occasionally swapping out to a 1/2” I also have a table top craftsman bandsaw I tend to use for anything that will fit on it that needs to be cut with a smaller blade. That said, I&#...

Question: creating the compound radius in a guitar fretboard, is there a jig? - 10 replies

So first, I’m not certain if this is the best forum for this question. So my apology if it is not. Now, I’ve been toying with the idea of trying to build my own guitar from scratch with some cheap wood as a trial so I can see where it’d just be easier for me to buy decently parts…One thing I’ve been mentally struggling with is the compo...
