Little projects... Good mental outlet to be in the shop

A couple of my more recent projects include a small business card holder made from some picture frame cut offs and a banana holder.

Business card holder was from a time when I was between projects and was cleaning up from doing some frames. All those little corner pieces pieces felt like they should be usable for something and I came up with this after sitting and staring at the scrap pile for a while. Will be fine for on my desk at work.

The banana holder was a request from my husband yesterday morning. After some Google searches to see some ideas on construction, I ended up with this version. Cut on my bandsaw (should have used narrower blade, but got the curve smooth enough) and then glued/screwed the holder to the base. He’s happy so I’m happy.

Big projects for weekend woodworking can feel overwhelming (ie, will I ever get it done) so small, simple (and somewhat silly) projects can be just what I need at times. Enough sawdust made for stress relief, without the pressure that I put on myself with bigger projects.

Nice work BB but why didn’t you post this on the projects page?

Seemed a little silly for a project post.

No way not silly! Big or small every project has a purpose. Everyone is going to see it one way or another!
People post projects made of scrap wood all the time! Me too!

Caption for the last picture. “yes, we have no bananas” 8^)

Great use of the scraps, I can’t count the number of frame cutoffs I’ve sent to the fire over the years, great save!

The hanger is aces, well thought out and of course love the plans, just my style of woodworking,

True dat on should be a project post, “is ti made from wood?” YES!

Splintergroup- haha, good caption. Scrap paper serves well for my plans! For the base I just did some random curves as a rectangle didn’t seem to fit with the upright holder curves.

Candy – always nice to be able to build something, even if simple, to solve a home related “problem.”

Jim – yep, getting into the shop is good. Nice to step away from work stuff and go make something.

GR8HUNTER- I agree, even just organizing or sitting with some paper to plan a project – well, just feels good to be in my little shop rather than my office

Have your say...
