The plan was to be done by now, but 2020.
I finally got working on these projects again. Planed the glued planks into uniform thickness 44 mm. Then used the cabinet saw to miter the ends. Started with the night tables, so the damage would be less severe if things didn’t work out. The saw settings needs to be just so for the miters to go together. They weren’t, but I managed to force the miters together. The second one actually glued pretty nice. The first one had some gaps, but I managed to ”burnish” them shut.

I found this tip for salvaging gapped miters: Apply glue, burnish with something solid, and sand immediately to stuff the remaining gap, if any.

The first one is already sanded, and only needs the drawer. The idea is to try something like this:
