« Part 3: 5 yrs later. Let's catch up a bit... Part 4 of Around The Shop.. series Part 5: Organizing the new shop.. Hanging Tools up Finally! »

Well today was a pretty productive day in the “new” shop space. I was able to get the space fully cleared out and swept. Then emptied all the boxes of tools and parts etc onto all the table spaces so I can see what I have to put away and nothing is being hidden inside a box.

The most exciting part was finally getting my roubo workbench in place and cleaned up. I will need to resurface the top but need to get my planes tuned up and sharp first. Otherwise it is holding strong 8 years after I finished it!

Then tonight I did a rough sorting of everything so tomorrow I can start finding homes for everything and it will all be together in like groups.

And a heap of plane parts and half restored tools..

I also was able to get my drill press area set up. Turns out a 32 gallon aquarium stand works out perfectly as a drill press stand! Pretty stoked about that.

Now tomorrow I will most likely make full use of this pegboard wall above this wall bench space. I man it was already there so might as well right?

I have a feeling this space will be pretty fluid for a bit while I figure out how I like to work in it and then adjust tools storage to that but am pretty excited to finally get these out of boxes and back into use!

Stay Tuned for more….

Looking mighty good, that’s a fantastic space! And your tool collection makes me drool a bit ;-) Glad you’re back around and looking forward to shop progress and future projects. I browsed your old projects and I like your style :-)

Thanks folks. Gotta say it feels really good getting everything back out and into a space. I have discovered that nearly all my carefully restored tools have a layer of rust on them now which bums me out but should be simple enough to clean up….. I hope? Lol

I too get bummed out when I see rust on something that I forgot to wipe down before I put away. I immediately stop, clean, wax, and put away. I’m really starting to consider plane socks for all of my planes though. Silicone impregnated socks, I hear, are commonly used in storing rifles and, thanks to the likes of Lee Valley, WoodCraft, and others, hand planes too.

Wow, you’ve been busy. Would’ve taken me 2 weeks to make that much progress. Nice space too!
