I am restoring a King Seeley Craftsman 4 3/8” jointer. Several have commented that they have one of these 50s machines. Some do not have the really needed mid fence support and some have the hinged, slotted bracket. The one I inherited is somewhere in the middle. I have the bent post with the knob and washers but no hinged bracket. My fence has the raised area for the hinged bracket to attach but it is not drilled and tapped. The fence is also not drilled for an auxiliary high fence. I know from the screws in the parts list that the bracket holes are tapped 10-24. I would be very grateful if somebody with this jointer could give me the exact location of the 4 screw holes, referenced from the top and one end of the fence on the smooth face side. Also what size are the aux. fence holes and are they tapped? As many dimensions of the hinge support as you can give me would be invaluable as I have to fabricate this assembly. Mine is one of the anniversary celebration series that they painted gold for a few years. It is on a Sears post base. I have the instructions for the base and the motor is attached to a bracket on the post by only two bolts. There is supposed to be a strap to prevent the motor base from bending under belt tension. I have to make that strap too because it is really needed. I haven’t found a good match for the gold paint. The catalog shows a belt guard but I have never seen one. there is a hole with a set screw in the top of the base, presumably to hold the belt guard There is an inexpensive belt guard for VW dune buggies with exposed engines, that looks like it might work though it is only 16” inches on the long dimension and my current belt is more like 19” between the outside ends of the pulleys A shorter belt will have a little less wrap on the 2” pulley and might be a little more prone to slip. The guard is available louvered or with a screen. The part number on my fence is 29227-103. Thanks.
