Jointer help - 15 replies

I bought my first jointer a few months ago and am running into a problem. I keep creating a taper in my wood when I use the jointer. The bed is dead flat and the fence is perfectly square. What am I doing wrong? How much pressure should you be putting on the wood? Probably a newby question but I’m a newb, so…..

I have a few questions about a router sled. Does the work piece need to lay on a perfectly flat, level surface? I know that the rails and router sled need to all be level but what about the work piece? I’ve seen people use router sleds directly on their garage floor, or on a pair of sawhorses.
