I've been doing woodwork for about 50 years. I've built furniture, toys, and musical instruments. Several years ago, I attended a dulcimer building workshop in Elkins, WV, being taught by Keith Young. This class was part of the Augusta Heritage Arts Workshops. The following year, Keith and I enrolled together in Kevin Enoch's Inlay and Engraving class. Kevin is a master banjo maker.

Eventually, I wound up as Keith Young's assistant, helping him teach the dulcimer building class. Keith passed away a few years ago after falling in his shop doing what he loved. He built over 1,600 dulcimers in addition to many other beautiful instruments.

As a result of my friendship with Keith and other luthiers, I built several dulcimers, a guitar, some cigar-box guitars, and some banjos. I've also repaired dozens of damaged or broken musical instruments.

Recently, I've built a number of rocking horses based on a design that Norm Abrams published in the early '90's. They are based on an antique horse in the Sturbridge Museum. My shop is a two-story affair that I built in 1984-85. Downstairs is 32' x 40' and upstairs, where I do most of my woodwork, is 16' x 40'. I hope to stay healthy enough to keep this up 'til I'm called to the Big Workshop.
