Thread Lock For Plastic Set Screws - 4 replies

Building a crosscut sled and I would like to find the best way to keep the plastic adjustment screws in my miter slot runners in place, but still leaves them adjustable. Thanks!

Brittle Walnut - 11 replies

I recently purchased a 8’ piece of 8/4 walnut. I’m making an end grain cutting board with it and noticed that I was getting a lot of chip out when I was cross cutting. I’m using a 80 tooth fine finishing blade which produces extremely clean cuts in cherry, maple, purple heart and pretty much whatever I cut with it. After the first glue up I cr...

Sharpening Cheap Chisels, Is It Really Worth It? - 33 replies

A dear friend of mine bought me a set of “budget” chisels for Christmas. So far I believe I’ve spent around 4 times the value of the set in sharpening supplies trying to get them in decent shape. Being new to the finer points of woodworking, ie sharpening, I think I’m learning an expensive lesson here. I initially started out buying several grit...

To Juice Groove Or Not To Juice Groove? - 19 replies

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of juice grooves, I usually use a dedicated carving board with juice grooves to cut cooked meats on. I’m looking to sell some cutting boards and would like to ask you all how much value a juice groove might add? This is actually my first end grain board. Getting ready to start the final glue up as soon ...

Purple Heart Virgin - 10 replies

I’m working on a end grain cutting board and am using purple heart as one of the types of wood. I haven’t worked with an exotic hardwood since high school wood shop when I made a jewelry box out of koa for my mom. I have a DeWalt 734 planer, a Delta 6” benchtop jointer and a craftsman 10” table saw. My tools have so far handled the other woods l...

Delta 14” Bandsaw - 12 replies

Is $500 a reasonable price for a used 14” Delta model 62-245 bandsaw? Looks fairly well maintained and has a mobile base.

Suggestions Wanted For My First End Grain Cutting Board - 14 replies

I just finished making 2 edge grain cutting boards and now the wife is hooked. She wants an end grain board. We went hardwood shopping Saturday and ended up bringing home about 23 board feet of 8/4 maple, cherry, walnut and Purple Heart. She fell in love with the Purple Heart when she walked in the door. So I will have plenty of material to make...

Incra 1000SE Miter Gauge - 37 replies

I am wondering what the acceptable error for my Incra 1000SE? Currently it is at .013 over a 12” cut. Using my WoodGraphic square, I can hardly see any gap along the entire edge of the square when checking the cut.

Planer Snipe on DeWalt 734 - 12 replies

Right out of the box my DeWalt 734 was working very well, absolutely no snipe. No, after a couple of cutting boards run through it, it has started sniping on both infeed and outfeed sides of the workpiece. I am making sure to take extremely small cuts on wide pieces, less than a quarter turn at a time. I’ve seen some people build an auxiliary pl...

Pre Glue Up Cutting Boards - 14 replies

Does anyone see any glaring mistakes before I glue these? Any input is welcome. https://app.photobucket.com/u/MarkAveryPatterson/p/785adf86-1bfe-402a-8664-7a565e3b363a

Vega U-26 Tablesaw Fence Not Locking Properly - 31 replies

I did ask this last night and didn’t get any response so I’ll try again. I need to use what seems excessive force when engaging the main fence lock. If I don’t do this the fence wanders out of adjustment. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Vega U-26 Fence Lock - 10 replies

I’m having issues getting a full lock on my Vega U-26 table saw fence. Unless I really wrench down hard on the locking handle it tends to loosen up and shift. Not much worse than a wandering table saw fence. Any tips or tricks?
