Lumberjocks search feature hasn’t been that helpful to me, I’ve had better luck just searching with google or bing. The problem there is if you only want links from lumberjocks instead of a bunch of junk from pintrest etc.

There is a little trick that will only return results for a particular site.

If I wanted to search hand planes I could type in hand planes site:lumberjocks.com and only get results from lumberjocks.

Anyway I hope this is helpful.

That’s how doing a search on the LumberJocks site works. It’s just adding the site: search operator in the background. I’ve written about it before, but no one seemed interested, but there are other operators — intitle:, intext:, and inurl: — that can help immensely when you are trying to pare down the results for a search. You have to know what to use and when of course, and that’s what I’ve written about. It’s just a matter of finding it (because I have no intention of typing it all in again) :)

I don’t think it is quite the same, because when I search the same key words I get different results.

You got it! Post #3 in that thread. More in post #7. If you keep reading, it was pretty much dismissed as being too complicated.

Doing the search through lumberjocks and doing the search through google, when i compare the results they diverge by the 4th or 5th result.

Even if it didn’t the google search provides more functionality by allowing an image search.

You’re right on that. Who knows what LJ does with the search results before they present them. It’s obviously not the exact Google output. You’re also right about the images. That’s always helpful.

I thought it was easily understood and quite helpful. Sorry I missed it the first time around.
