I just purchased this sander from HD. My question is…..does the belt attachment tend to make far more noise than the spindle attachment. This is the case for my sander. I just want to be sure that this is normal. Also does anyone have issues with mild vibration of the sander? It also appears that the plastic enclosure makes noise….

If you’re hearing a “raspy” sound the comes and goes as the belt moves up and down, you probably need to adjust the belt tracking. That’s the knob on the right side of the belt attachment. I try to keep my belt as close to the top of the rollers as possible – and still staying below the table during the full oscillation.

If the noise is constant, make sure that you’re aligning the belt attachment correctly when you install it. I’ve sanded a bit of my table because of incorrect installation.

If that’s all ok, you’re probably fine. The belt sander is a little noisier – it has more moving parts.
