This is the first major project I worked on after picking up woodworking again. I did some woodworking as a teen but hadn’t really done anything with those skills for 25 years. Now that I have a few tools I am getting into creating things again.

This whole wall entertainment center replaced a fireplace that was built into the wall. I had to purchase a hammer drill to chip away at the concrete that was poured to support the fireplace. After that I removed the chimney, sealed up the wall, and painted the entire wall black. The TV sits in the gap where the fireplace used to be.

The project was built out of Birch with Purple Heart trim. Once again David Marks left his mark on me. I watched him build an art deco umbrella stand from Maple and Purple Heart and I just loved the way those two colors of wood worked together!!!

I added low voltage lighting to the cabinets which turned out great for watching TV. The center provides great ambient lighting without placing any glare on the TV screen. All in all I used about $1,500 in materials (wood and lighting) and took about three weeks to build.
