I was fortunate to receive a few pieces of American Chestnut from an older church member. Her husband who was a woodworker in his younger days collected different woods on his travels around the country. He is now in his late 90’s and most likely won’t be doing anymore woodworking. This piece along with a few others were all encased in paraffin wax and stacked in the attic of their garage along with quite a bit of old growth cedar, walnut, maple, ash, and hickory. I was able to see a few of the pieces that he had created and was impressed with the craftsmanship and attention to detail. It would have been great to have been able to get to know him before his mind started drifting away.
