Installed Bedroom Suite

Built this bedroom suite for a friend. Wasn’t able to get glamor-shot photos of the bed alone since it was installed on site, but here it is in its final space (along with her daily mess). Practiced a few different kinds of joints with chisels and handsaws since it was to be painted, so it became a nice little teaching tool. Pins, half-laps, half half-laps, bridles, mortise and tenon, dowel… might have even included a dovetail or two…

Fourteen drawers in all. Seven in the dresser, six in the bed, one in the nightstand. Combination of hand-cut dovetails and nailed rabbet joints. Definitely need a dovetail jig/router bits before I tackle another mass of drawers. It took way too long to do by hand…

Tulip Poplar with Pine trim, the only plywood in the furniture is in the drawer bottoms/dresser back/headboard. Drawers are all solid pine. Finished with Rust-o-leum gloss white paint—- will never, ever offer to paint something white again… what a pain in the butt…

Oh, and lesson learned about agreeing to do a job in a garage with no A/C during the summer in the San Fernando Valley… 100+ degree days most weeks during this build…

I do not like painting projects white as well. Good job on the final product though. Looks like plenty of storage!
