My brother in law was complaining about a tree he took down a couple years ago and was waiting for his neighbor to take it away. It’s a silver maple, but it may be getting rotten he said. Hmm rot=spalt, so here is a sample of things to come. I’ve been concentrating on turning for the last year doing a bowl every week or two. This is finished in teak oil. My wife was not too happy when I explained the holes were from bugs.

That is crazy ate up with spalt. Usually when they get that much they are also getting punky. Nice rot. I’d say you caught that just about right. So it had bugs too?
Nice bowl, thanks for sharing it with us.
