A couple years ago, my sister asked me to build a large wood fire engine for a charity auction.
I built 2 of them at the time. 1 was sold at the charity auction. On the 2nd one, I finished it except painting the main truck red, and gluing on the 3 wheel axle pins.
A few months ago, I wondered if my 2.5 year old grandson would like to assemble and take apart the fire engine I never finished. He has a ball with it. It has 15 pieces.
Since he has so much fun with the old fire engine, I wondered if he would have even more fun if I designed a new one…......and design it with as many removable parts as possible. So, I built a new fire engine with 23 parts.
Since he doesn’t care if the main body is painted or not, I am just going to leave the new body unpainted. The whole fire engine is made of common pine.
To see more details on this project, see my woodworking web site.
I also uploaded the model to the Sketchup Warehouse here.
Thanks!

Thanks!
All joints are dowelled with either 1/4” or 3/8” dowels, with 1 side of dowel glued in, and other side of dowel free.

My grandson, at 2.5, needed just a little help from grandpa to assemble the 1st fire engine with 15 parts. He will be 3 in July, and I anticipate grandpa will have to help him assemble the new one with 23 parts. I am anxious for him to test drive it :)
