Cabin/loft bed with storage

My daughter wanted a new bunk bed but, as there is only one of her, I didn’t see the need for two beds so I decided to build a loft bed with storage underneath. The steps were requested instead of a ladder.
The room had an alcove in it that was just slightly bigger than the standard UK single matress so was the ideal spot, leaving the rest of the room for play space.
The basic frame is made from 2×4’s, stairs and front from MDF and the drawer/shelf unit is made from birch ply (I wanted this to be a piece of furniture that could be reused as a stand alone piece for when she grows out of this bed and I have to build another, hopefully a good few years away).
The treads on the stairs open up for further storage.
Finished with a couple of coats of a good quality gloss paint (and fairy stickers)

What a great bed. A couple of our Granddaughters have beds raised with play area underneath, but I like yours as well. I’m sure your daughter will have many hours of fun as well as sleep…good one Dad

That is an awesome bed, first class. The stairs don’t look wide enough for an adult to change the sheets. Are they wider than they look or do you just stand and do it. TIA.

The stairs are 30cm wide, My wife and I both get up there with no problems to read bedtime stories but hopefully my daughter will change her own sheets!!

I wanted to make the same for my daughter, but at the opposite end of the stairs she wanted a slide for getting out of bed. I think it would have made bed time impossible – needless to say the bed did not eventuate. Well done on yours though, it looks great.
