Project Information

Here's my version of an old classic. The top is 17" x 22" made out of spalted maple. The base is made using curly maple for the column and legs. the stringing on the legs is black died veneer. All the rest of the black accents is ebony. I also put spalted maple inserts on the feet.

For the finish I used a light tint of golden brown die stain. Wiped it down with lacquer thinner and re-sanded everything. then just top coated it with lacquer and wax.

Beautiful piece. Gorgeous wood combinations and exquisitely done. Love the classic lines, and the fact thqt you departed from the norm of using a dark wood.

Thank you for sharing

Amazing workmanship, fantastic looking table, and great use for spalted maple, it adds to an already good looking piece. The ebony sure draws the eye to the details.

Les, this design has always been one of my favorite tables. Always. I love your table and your craftsmanship is superb. As previously stated, you matched your colors flawlessly, and I agree with Scott, I love the dark inlay. I was blown away when I saw this table. Came back 3 hours later and took another look and was blown away again. I would love to see additional pictures of the build, if possible. It would be great if you could share (pics) how you made the part which has the black vertical lines above the legs. Maybe a blog of the table build?

You have incredible talent, which shows on this fabulous piece. Well done my friend; very, very, well done.

I don't know how the Editor's Choice Award is given on this site, but this table should certainly qualify for this award.

You have struck a fine balance between ornate details and clean lines. It is a learning experience just to look at it.

Phenomenal piece, Les! Love the top and the details on the legs. Any chance you have a pic that shows a close up of the feet? It'd be cool to see the details a bit better.

Hey thanks everyone, I really appreciate it!!!!!

I added a close up of the foot Jay. it has an ebony pad on the bottom and the ankle is ebony also. The spalted maple inlay is end grain. I did that so they would have more figure in the small space.

I think I have enough pictures to do a blog about the table, but I just don't have time right now to do one, maybe later on I cant get it done.

Ok, I'm jumping back in. I'm so wowed by the table that I would definitely award it with an editors choice. The thing is they have their criteria and their eyes. Wether they choose it or not doesn't change my personal opinion. That is one of the finest tables I have ever seen.

Les,

Thanks for showing the details of the foot. It really is splendid! We agree that this should have been the editor's choice award.
