Project Information
Here's the latest….pictures are not the best except the one outside in sun. Coffee table is 40" x 22" and of course, it is all Monte's BKP. Love working with that stuff, got more coming. I may have to get a truck, go up there and load up.
Anyhow, it is a chevron pattern, glued to a piece if 3/4" plywood. Top is edged with a strip of Aromatic Cedar as a contrast. Would have preferred some bark edge but don't have any. The top is hinged with a piano hinge that can't be seen unless you get below the table.
Under the top is a box about 16" x 16" with a latching lid. Inside is padded with egg-crate foam so a pistol can be kept there for whatever reason. Mine is for protection of my family. The top has slow-descending lifts that keep the top from slamming down (the kind we use on toy boxes to protect little fingers).
Finish is 2 coats of shellac, sanded out with 600 followed by 10 wipe on coats of poly thinned about 3-2 with paint thinner. It is regular poly as you can tell from the amber coloring. Each coat is sanded with 1000 and dust wiped off before next coat. Top is smooth as glass, it has dried for 4 days and tonite I will wax it with carnuba and electrically buff it with the car buffer.
I already have 2 people who want to buy it but I'm not gonna let it go cheap since I built it for me. But if I sell it, the next one will be better. Does $450 sound like might be in the right price vicinity? And it was fun to build.
